How We Make Money

Last updated: March 28, 2026

We believe in full transparency about how MyOilType.com generates revenue. Here's the honest breakdown.

Display Advertising

Our primary revenue source is display advertising served by a third-party advertising network. These are the banner ads you may see on our pages. A few important things about our ads:

Ads never appear inside the vehicle lookup tool or interrupt the tool experience. They appear around and below content — never in the way of the information you came for. The advertising network handles ad selection and placement. We don't choose which specific ads appear.

Affiliate Product Links

When we recommend products (like specific oil brands or filters) on vehicle pages, those product links often include an affiliate tracking code. If you click one of those links and make a purchase, we earn a small commission — typically 1–4% of the purchase price — at no extra cost to you. You pay the same price whether you use our link or go directly to the retailer.

We currently participate in affiliate programs with Amazon (Amazon Associates), Walmart (Walmart Affiliate), and Advance Auto Parts (via CJ Affiliate).

What Does NOT Influence Our Recommendations

Our product recommendations are based entirely on manufacturer specifications and compatibility. We recommend the products that match your vehicle's requirements. The affiliate commission rate does not influence which products we recommend or how prominently they appear. If a product doesn't match your vehicle's specs, we won't recommend it regardless of commission.

Why This Model Works

Advertising and affiliate revenue allow us to keep the entire site free — no paywalls, no premium tiers, no "sign up to see your results." Every vehicle lookup, every fluid spec, every tool on the site is free to use, always. The revenue we earn from ads and affiliate links is what makes that possible.
