Mercedes-Benz GLC Oil Specifications (2024)
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC uses 0W-20 full synthetic oil meeting SP / MB 229.71 specifications. European manufacturers are notably pickier about oil specifications than Japanese or American brands — in addition to the standard API certification, Mercedes-Benz requires oil that meets their own proprietary specification (SP / MB 229.71). Not all 0W-20 oils meet this additional standard, so check the bottle for the Mercedes-Benz-specific certification before purchasing.
The 2.0L Turbo 4-Cylinder takes 5.8 quarts with a new filter. Mercedes-Benz uses a cartridge-style oil filter (A2761800009) rather than the spin-on type common on Japanese vehicles. Cartridge filters are slightly more involved to change — you'll need a cap-style filter wrench — but they're environmentally friendlier since only the filter element is replaced, not the entire housing.
Dealer vs DIY: The Cost Difference
Mercedes-Benz dealership oil changes typically run $120–$200, partly due to the higher cost of European-spec synthetic oil and partly due to dealer labor rates. A DIY oil change using the same quality oil and a quality aftermarket filter costs $45–$65. If you change your own oil twice a year, that's $110–$270 in annual savings. The process is no more complicated than on any other car — the engineering is in the engine, not the drain plug.

2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC — Common Questions
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC with the 2.0L Turbo 4-Cylinder engine takes 0W-20 Full Synthetic oil meeting API SP / MB 229.71 specifications. You'll need 5.8 quarts with a new filter.
Mercedes-Benz recommends oil changes every 10,000 miles or 12 months for the 2024 GLC, whichever comes first. If you frequently drive in severe conditions — lots of short trips, stop-and-go traffic, towing, extreme temperatures, or dusty roads — consider shortening that interval to 5,000 miles.
Mercedes-Benz specifies full synthetic oil for the 2024 GLC. While using conventional oil in an emergency won't immediately damage your engine, it doesn't meet the same performance standards that your engine was designed around. Synthetic oil provides better protection at temperature extremes, lasts longer between changes, and reduces internal engine friction. For the relatively small price difference ($10–$15 more per oil change), stick with synthetic — your engine will thank you.
The OEM oil filter part number for the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC is A2761800009. Compatible aftermarket filters include the FRAM CH11665, Mobil 1 M1C-455A, and Bosch 72262WS. Any of these will work well — the key is to always replace the filter with every oil change and to make sure the gasket on the old filter comes off cleanly when you remove it.
